I think of beading as making grooves just to stiffen sheet metal. I never really considered other possibilities. Perhaps there is an addiction to flames.

I have a ring roller (cheap HF) it works well except it has radius groove for 1/4" round but it still makes a corkscrew. I assume the grooves aren't exactly lined up.

The corkscrew I think is natural from what I have read. However, you might be able to prevent corkscrewing by holding the rod so it does not lean. When it corkscrews, the ends have to be cut off and maybe hammered flat? With every tool there is a disadvantage that I don't think about. Hope you figure out how to stop it from corkscrewing.
