1930 American Bantam 3window coupe project
Well I got around to start assembling some of the parts I have laying around to build a little street rod out of . Built a chassis and now am moving into the sheetmetal phase .
The body panels had been tacked together in its previous life to use as an altered gasser or something . So there is no inner structure and they pop riveted a conduit framework around the belt line for strength . After mocking everything up with the engine/tire/radiator relationship I was only coming up with about 85' wheelbase and I need to be in the 90s . So I took some 3" foam glued together and shaved up a firewall extension that was more pleasing . Next I am moving into the rocker panel and door sill area so to get enough stability to move into getting floors built . Kind of a fun project and am sort of building on the fly with lots of hidden things that keep cropping up . I have to load pictures one at a time with my phone untill someone shows me different ways to do it .

Dan, with your apple thing, I understand that it is a 'feature' that you can only upload one at a time. However, if you can get the photos on your PC, then you can resize and upload them as attachments many at a time.

I just have to ask, by 3 door I’m assuming you meant the silly little sedan delivery Bantam built ? They could probably deliver flowers for the local florist or maybe a cake for a bakery but that’s about it.
My own Bantam observation is all street rodders (including me) made the mistake of cutting the front half of the cowl off at the beading line that was at the back of the stock hood therefore severely limiting the leg room. Back in the day (1970) I didn’t have the ability to extend that cowl but that’s the only way I’d consider doing the other coupe body I own today. If you build an enclosed Bantam you’ve got to fight / fabricate for every extra inch of room you can unless you are a very small person, they are incredibly tiny cars. ~ John Buchtenkirch P.S. I’m also looking forward to some photos on this project .

this is Dan's coupe. It looks like the firewall was not cut back. Dan I think I have a solution to your Apple uploading issues. You've been posting them to Facebarf anyway. All you have to do is click on each one you can to post here and 'save as' to your real computer (the desktop in the basement...not your fruit phone). That is what I just did to these two. If you put them in a separate new directory it will make your life easier. Somehow either Apple or FB resizes them because I didn't have to do anything to them size wise. Then you can attach them in groups of 10 and insert all to get them to show up. You can type your text around the photos or do all the text at the front like some others do.

Kerry, it looks like Dan is well on his way with building his own firewall / cowl extension. My photo #1 shows what a stock firewall & cowl looks like. On a stock Bantam the cowl & driver’s feet actually go quite a bit of distance under the hood so leg room wasn’t a problem. #2 is Dan’s Austin coming down the assembly line, the paint is being buffed. #3 is Marv Ginter’s Bantam, it was the cover car on the June, 1963 issue of Popular Hot Rodding and inspired me to build my yellow coupe in 1970 right after I returned home from Vietnam. Always had a thing for Austin Bantam and Bantam coupes . ~ John Buchtenkirch

And if you want to see what’s likely the first Austin Bantam coupe ever chopped check out this clip from the 1933 film “International House”. ~ John Buchtenkirch
