I've been busy wrapping up a lot of loose ends that I left for later when I was doing the big stuff. Tying down lines and harnesses, making tabs and brackets, sent my seat belts out to be rebuilt, etc. Mostly mundane stuff.
I also made a closure panel for the leading edge of the dash where it comes up to the windshield. It probably won't be seen when the windshield is installed because that area will be blacked out, but I want it closed off. I made the panel in two pieces from template board first, then aluminum. I am covering them with black "speaker cloth" so I sprayed them with 3M-90 contact cement. In some areas they snap in but I also put a couple screws in to keep them in place.

Get some DAP weldwood hhr and you will never worry about it letting go. This stuff is the gold standard in contact cement. This and a cheapo $10 harbor freight spray gun is the only thing I use for adhering automotive fabrics. The only reason I ever use other glues is when I have the rare occasion to need to retain the ability to remove the fabric. With that 3M stuff, the heat of a car will eventually make the fabric let go. Im crossing my fingers hoping you have never heard of this upholstery secret before. I hope I can one day actually teach you, the jedi master something to repay you for all the knowledge in this thread.

Thanks, Norman. I'll keep it in mind, there will be more upholstery work when I get to that point. Do you do upholstery for a living?

I am an "Extreme DIY guy". I have way too many hobbies (that bring in side $$$) and one of them is competition car audio which led me to upholstery. I create custom panels from various materials for various projects. Sometimes it is making aftermarket panels that look factory, sometimes its making restored panels and sometimes it is crazy custom stuff. I dream of building Restomods for a full time gig but am much to afraid of not being able to sustain my current monetary lifestyle. I used to airbrush custom bikes as a side gig . My skills include Woodworker Metalworker Welder Custom Artist Custom Car audio Custom upholstery Custom Air suspension dude Etc... Next year I will retire from the USAF after 22.5 years and maybe I will make the leap to build hotrods for serious cash. Until then, I am too chicken$h!t to take the risk.

Since when is it stylish to confuse CS with practicality?
Much too modest, methinks!
