Hi Richard,
Are there any welds in that first picture in the front panel of the nose? Looks really good. Thanks for sharing Frank

I should have taken some shots of the aircraft bits he was working on when I called in. Nasty curved elongated blisters with reverse flanges. Piece of cake with a die an a 500 tonne press, but a tricky thing to hammer and shrink from a flat piece. Mike has done a lot of Warbird work now and whereas most of us lesser beings would pound the hell out of something on a bag and thin it like foil, he can manually shrink (just on the bench and his stump) to maintain the section spec. He doesn't have any power gear at all - a couple of wheels and a swage.

More nosecone progress from Mike on the Austin 7 Special.
Current paying work on the bench was a couple of oil cooler ducts for a Lockheed Electra being restored locally. 20160315_172208.jpg 20160315_172220.jpg

Mike has made everything Peter - must stress that none of this is my work.
Mike is a mate and mentor just down the road from me. He works largely on his own and always has something special in the shop. Lots of fiddly aircraft stuff with Ardmore, the Warbirds and Avspecs being just around the corner. He used to work for the Bruce McLaren Trust for a time, but now has a couple of wealthy collectors who keep him flat out with everything from a Cologne Capri replica (perfect nut and bolt recreation) a 3 year rebuild of a Ferrari Boxer crashed and in boxes since the 70's, through to architectural details and motorcycle stuff. Just a clever bastard and thoroughly nice person

Thanks Bart. Mike doesn't seem to be a big fan of paint. Both of his hot rods (facebook hammer works) are bare metal - and none of this rust nonsense.. I would expect that this one will be polished. It's also only going the weigh a bit more than a go-kart, so everything is pared down to the minimum.
https://www.facebook.com/HammerWorks/ for some of Mike's work.
