Richard, In your opinion, do you think a nose for a Track T could be built with your idea? I like the idea of a peaked grill shell. I'm gonna try to make Dan's meet and check out your buck. Thanks in advance, Steve

Richard:
In the hand sketched pattern it shows that the blank for the shell is in one piece. Would that not be quite hard to handle as you were shaping. Wouldn't it be easier done like Mr. Gardner does his?

Just thought I would interject. The way Richard has done this is the right way for this shell. It saves some welding and metal finishing. the weld is on top of the curved ridge and will not cause distortion so will require little if any finishing.

Thanks for the question and observation. In the last couple of days, I found some additional notes I had jotted down when making patterns from the original. In fact, in a note I found I had noted a horizontal weldin the side of the shell just below the top of the front opening.

This has me interested.
I thought it could be done with just stretching and simple rolls. The reason I say that is why else would you not split it in half and make it easier to shrink. I played with it a little with a paper cut out and I can not see how you could do it with out shrinking. Here is the way I see it, am I wrong? Red is shrinking and black is stretching the rest is just form. Image%20(8)-1.jpg

Johnny if you split the shell down the side the 2 top peices are just bowls. I don't think the center where you weld it has much more shape then the other side of the bowl. Remember the peek down the center flattens out. You would have to restretch the center if you shrunk to much.
I'd love to build a shell!! I agree, it would look good on the wall. Richard what did the millers have for teeth in the grill inserts?

We have it set to where on jpg's the max width is 620 and height is 280. We were having problems with people fighting getting pictures posted and the next thing you know they posted a poster in their thread. Then we (admins) would have to save the picture to our computer re-size them and then re-insert the photo into the thread. It was a pain in the but. For the most part our setting has worked pretty good but in your case it did not. We apologize for the inconvenience and the late reply.

Johnny, On the shrink and stretch deal....... there is really not much shape invloved. Each half of the top is a quarter of a bowl. I will have a buck at Dan's meet. I also have a Flex Shape Pattern I took off the real Miller part several years ago. It has good detail. We'll have some fun making up a few of these!

Richard, please send me the full size file via email (pinkertonk@mchsi.com). I was out of town and missed you having this problem. I routinely post photos that are large enough to see detail with no problem so I want to figure this out.

Jpg images are actually limited to 600x600 and 97.7k for attachments. As John said, having a full size image out of a 12 megapixel camera load on your screen takes entirely too long, so there are limits in place.
