Default Grant from Missouri

Hello,

As the title indicates, my name is Grant. I have a lovely wife and two great boys (17 and 20) and we currently reside in Neosho Missouri (Southwest corner of the state). I'm a software developer by day and love to play with metal and machines as often as I can between work and family. As of late, I haven't had much shop therapy. We've been working on our home as quickly as possible in an attempt to get it on the market to buy a house that seems to have been made specifically with us in mind. If the stars align and we actually end up getting the new place, I'll be in a quagmire of home projects and building a new shop for quite some time to come, but eventually, building a roadster is on my bucket list which is what has brought me here.

I've done a little panel repair and making panels in the past but haven't dove as deeply as I'd like. This is one of the areas of metal working where I have the least personal experience. I enjoy fabrication, welding, foundry work (casting metal), blacksmithing, and machining. I have a very full hobby machine shop, but I have neither oxy/acetylene nor tig and my sheet metal tools are relatively limited. I have a decent compliment of forming hammers (both built and bought) as well as a bead roller and I've started building an english wheel (I'm still trying to decide whether to build an english wheel / planishing hammer combo or individual machines so any personal recommendations on this would be appreciated).

Thanks for the opportunity to join the forum. There's great information and I'd love to get to the point where I could assist others in learning.

Welcome to the forum, Grant.

Sounds like you're making a good start at things. Fwiw, I bought my simple gas welding oxy/acetylene rig long ago, no experience and have been enjoying & learning ever since- probably because it came with a great torch.

When I got a chance to get a TIG, I did. The gas welder still is my favorite. With the right torch, it's great and incredibly versatile.
