Hi Jaro, I use heavy paper - poster board - cut into strips 30-40 mm wide and long like .25meter. I use them to lay over my major supports or bulkheads on small parts like tanks. I can get a nice shape using many of them overlapped. I tape them or staple them.

Kent thank your advice and interes. I have to do it with greater humility. I went into that confidently as a simple piece. It will not be so. If it is to be a good result.
The owner does not know how he wants it. I thought it would be done in one day. But a good case for learning. That's why I'm doing it.

Many ways to achieve this and we all do things differently. Came across this cheap method, using potters clay to style up a model, if you wish to see exactly what the final shape will look like for client approval. Only need to do 1/2 of the tank then you can then make a flexible tape pattern to shape both sides...

Jaraslov- are you planning to rework the air filter as well or use the original equipment? Also wondered if there will be any reinforcement under the "tank" or if it will be a single layer of metal? I'm wondering about the engine's airflow for intake and how it will be addressed.
The VRod engine is a great engine but is all computer-controlled. Introducing new shapes and creating significant turbulence that limits airflow, especially at higher speed, might have a negative impact on engine performance. I expect the false tank (for those who don't know, the real fuel tank is under the seat on a VRod) used by the factory is designed with this requirement in mind. Anything that replaces this part should be developed the same way. Before I made a serious real part, I would quickly fab a part with the same approximate shape underneath- air intake surface- as my desired finished piece. Then the bike can be ridden with that part installed to see what happens with engine performance. A VRod is one of my favorite engines to ride because it just keep going. An improper replacement "tank" might be ok at low speeds but if it ruins the bike's higher speed operation, that's not cool. That clay video has been discussed here before.... The idea is better than his comical example or method. There are much better ways to do it.

Cliffrod. I made a tool for comparing dimensions outside the motorcycle. The fake tank will be over the original filter. I will not interfere with the suction. I like the motorcycle as it is ..... But if someone wants to spoil it and push it into the workshop to my learn wit on it, and not risk anything. Who is going to do it. I want to do it nicely. But the original motorcycle is well thought out. So it is difficult - to improve it. I'm walking around, and trying made good work. It will be that the handle is released and all the splendor will be gone and will return the original cover there.

The V-Rod is back.
He returned to me after a one-year trip with to the girls V-ROD . He same pressure, the owner has no idea, he just wants to cut and trim the bike - again he doesn't know how and still hurry. The girls takeing off their bras and the sun watches them before than can possibile see from his bike. He is little nervous. The sun doing miracles.
I must speed working. I sending proces. DSC003291.jpg DSC00437.jpg DSC00438.jpg DSC00439.jpg DSC00440.jpg DSC00441.jpg DSC00434.jpg DSC00435.jpg DSC00444.jpg DSC00447.jpg

I continued a little. Shaping it goes well. I literally wait for it to turn out a shape.
