Default Roadster's back with his Buck

For those who have been around awhile, now I have space to work the buck is all in one place, still loads to do but at least now its in the dry.

If you are new around here (last couple of yrs or so), back in the spring of 2010 I started building a Cobra buck, it went to 17 pages and only stopped because I didn't have the space to work on it.
Its here if you have the time. http://www.allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=1064

Related but not about, yesterday this turned up after a lot of planning.

Hi Phil,
Yes it looks a bit daunting, the problem I found locally to me was a shortage of RHS (rectangular hollow section)size range. My criteria was for 40" throat, eventually I went for 10 x 6 x 1/4" this was after talking to several people about what I wanted from the wheel.
Most of the mitres are 22.5 deg. all cut by the supplier. Still a lot of work to do on the lower toolarm but that will come in time.

Default An update on my Wheel

Now we're talking.

Had hoped to get it finished so I could have put it under the tree and surprise my good lady but like many projects we run out of time.

Season greetings to you all and wishing you a very productive 2014

Looks nice Tom. I have a question for you though. What's the idea of the lower arm being removable? I see it on many wheels but they are always on and all look similar. At first I thought it was to exchange the lower arm for a different shaped arm but I haven't as yet seen one of a different style bolted on.

Morning and Happy Christmas. She's certainly looking good and also looking a lot bigger standing upright! Will look forward to seeing the end result in the New Year and reports on how she behaves.

Yes, in fact I just finished making another lower arm with a lower adjuster. Do I need it? Not yet, but if I do I have it. The bolt on lower is also used to shim to get every thing align. Some times when you weld a frame up it wants to twist out of align, if it bolts on you can shim it back.

I think Rick's just about answered it but should Kerry pop by we will know for sure. Personally I can't see the point of beating your self up trying to get the alignment and then failing, plus should the need arise to adapt the lower holder for that special job, the opportunity is there. For those that like playing with the numbers the box is 10 X 6 X 1/4" with a throat of 39.4".

I am uncertain if I should wind the adjuster towards the top of its travel and then finish the lower arm from there, second thing is with the lower arm on will I be close to the point of balance
