Hey, Marcus, I was looking at your tag line:
Invention is a combination of brains and materials. The more brains you use, the less materials you need. That explains the large pile of scrap in my back yard...

I'm excited to see the progress of chassis at the Roundup. We are counting the days!

Just finished the woodwork and varnishing of the Bugatti radiator 'buck'. We will try to do as much of the sheet metal and mounting brackets at the Redneck Roundup as we can. We originally scanned the body with the radiator cap in the scan, and we also had the radiator cap in the chassis scan, so we could 'mate' the two scans into the final assembly. All the measurements for the firewall and assorted chassis items were taken from the center of the top of the radiator cap. After the chassis has been assembled, this radiator buck will be installed and subsequent installations will be done according to this location, including the firewall 'assembly'.

The assembly fixtures and frame components arrived at Jim Hery's shop and this is a preliminary layout of what is to come.

Here is an update on some of the Bugatti chassis build. We just picked up the aluminum parts that were cut at the water jet guy. These are enough to do the first three dash supports and the first three firewall support brackets. We also picked up the steel components that will be used to make fixture for the assembly/welding. We are hoping to get all the other pieces rounded up to start the weld/assembly when we are attending the Dan Pate Route56wingnut event next month.

Will,
I've been following this thread with interest for a while now. First, great job on the CAD modeling of everything... I use Creo for modeling, and I can appreciate the time it takes to do an accurate, detailed job. I've done a bit of scanning a number of years ago, I remember it took a lot of time to clean up the scan model for it to be usable in the CAD model. I bet that is really satisfying to see the actual metal parts come in after working on the CAD model, I know I really love seeing the fruits of my labor as actual physical parts! You said that you had parts for 3 dash units, so I had to go back and read the whole thread again.... I'm assuming you are building 3 complete cars? I couldn't tell for sure in the thread history. Great work, and keep the pictures and updates coming! Kent

Good evening, Kent. I am helping Jim Hery from Belfast, Tenn. His goal is to build a prototype and eventually (5) additional complete cars with aluminum bodies. Thanks for looking at the post. Scott White from Philadelphia did the 3D scanning.
