Most of our guys here in New Zealand seem to use 5005, so not knowing any better that is what I've used too. It does anneal well with sharpie marks and leaving to air cool. Stuff I've used pretty sure was 'half hard' (H14) 20181004_180905.jpg

Richard, 5005 does work similar to 3003 because both have very low alloy. To my knowledge 5005 has not been produced in the US in a long time. The rolling mill I work in produced it a long time ago but not in the last 30 years or so.

I needed to determine the aluminum alloy for a motorcycle subframe that I was doing several welds on last week. If 6061 it needed solution heat treating at 980°f. If 7005 I could age it with 320°f.
Took it to my local metal recycler as I remembered them having a hand held X-ray Fluorescence tool. These cost more than $10k. They said its $40k. It read 7005 alloy as I was hoping. They did not charge me.
