Got the cowl done today (except for the door gaps, and also refit the hood.
I need to drive it outside while the weather is nice and take some current photos. I've been thinking about doing running boards. I don't know. Certainly would not be straight. I'm thinking if I did them I might curve them in kind of like this: They would be decorative and I'm sure I'd be pissed if anyone actually stepped on them but I'd have some stainless beads running down the top. Thoughts?

I don't think running boards would do anything for the cars looks. It would take away for the shape of the fenders. My two cents.

I first thought no. Then I went back a looked again. I think it will tie it all together.I think the stainless is a good idea also. Go for it! If you don't like it you can always take it off

Something to keep in mind that I realized when researching the purchase of an old sedan hotrod last year was "non-functional" running boards do complicate entry and exit of the vehicle for us older gentlemen. Just my thoughts. Car looking good though. Bob

The roadster is looking good Kerry, it must feel pretty good to see it looking like this!
As for the running boards, my vote would be to mock something up anyhow to see how it looks from a few feet away. I'm not really sure whether something needs to be there or not, but I have thought about it a few times when looking over this project. Ken

Running Boards?
Try a drawing with them terminating on the center line of the fender both front & rear. Or roll in some distance from the read fender.
I think the car is too low for anyone to have the need to step on them. Stainless runners sounds like a really nice touch. Besides it would give you something else to do.

I think the running boards would tie the two sets of fenders together very nicely.
Didn't want to say anything ('cause it's not my project), but the detached look of the front fenders has bothered me from the start. That slick valley between the front fender and the hood side needs a flat plane to terminate into (IMO). A nice reverse along the intersection line would tie things together. I also like the curve toward the center of the car that you've mocked up there. A straight side on the running board would look bad (again, IMO). Slay some cardboard, build a mockup, and see what it looks like. Maybe I'm FOS on this one, but I bet they tie the whole deal together real nice.

Elegant cars have running boards....
Race cars don't....

I'm no artist, but I've heard that knowing when to stop is one of the important aspects.
