Tank Roll Dimensions?
If this is in the wrong area Please feel free to move it.
Greetings Guys, I need some Help. I'm running Bead roller dies now and have a few Tank Roll sets sold. I told both Customers that I've never made these before, So no Guarantees. Not Only have I not made them before, I've never used them. Looking at a Site I found Dimensions on these but all that is Dimensioned is the Radius of the roll. The Ones I have seen, as well as the ones mentioned above have a shoulder. I am assuming that the Shoulder acts as a Stop for the edge of the Panel? With the Radius, and Centerlines I can draw these with Confidence but I would like to know what to look for, as well as how they should act when I try them. Guys calling me wanting these items can't find them for their Machines. What most Guys tell me is that most Dies available are HVAC, Not Automotive. I see great threads on Modified and Original Machines, and it seems most make their own Dies. Many of You have Beading Dies, Stepping Dies, and Tipping Dies I've made before, I Appreciate the Purchases. What My Goal is, is to try and Offer Many Different Shaped Dies Available for a Wide Variety of Machines. Most of these Machine Makers either are not in Business any longer or they no longer offer tooling for the Machines. There are Very Few Variables to making a set of Dies. 1) Distance Between Centers on the Machine? 2) Shaft Diameter and Length? 3) How is the Die Secured to the Shaft? 4) Shape to be Created? I'm trying to supply a service to the Metal Shaping Community as well expand my Product Line. I charge $55.00 for Most Dies, Bigger Dies naturally Cost a bit more. Thanks for the Help in Advance. ____________________________

They are not for furnace work. They are for welded sheet edges. As in some tanks or guards on machinery and etc. For rounding a corner.
Here is a drawing of mine. The sheet centerline should centered in between shafts for best results. The major working point of dies or I should say the part with the most pressure on the die, should be on that centerline. Otherwise because of the different surface speeds of the dies have to slip on each other. These dies use the flat part to pull the sheet through so it needs to be on that line. With the radius I used and the dia. of my shafts and gears it came out that the top die in this drawing needed no stop. Used the shaft. (for A 90 bend) I made a cupped washer that goes behind the upper die in drawing that changes same die set to 45 bend. These dies are somewhat gage specific. You can make them not so by hollowing out the female die shape some. (so only the beginning and end of radius does the work) edgeturning1.jpg edgeturning2.jpg

Richard Thanks!
Joe H Thanks for the Call as Well(VERY HELPFUL) Richard the Drawings are as Always Self Explanatory. I've Also seen Dies Similar to these that have been called "Tank Rolls", these Dies Will Not do a 90 Degree Corner. They Do about 75 Degrees of a Radius so there is No shoulder Step, the Radius Flows to the edge of the Die. Are these Called Something Else? Cords I've made many Mittler Bros Dies in the Past, what are you looking for? mmacmmac what Dies are you wanting? Message me or Call me later today, Peggy's out at the Dr's this a.m. for a bit so we're short handed.

Mittler sells what they call tank rolls but they are the same as what I use and just drew except theirs have the stop made in.
Anyway I can't think of any use for anything much different. I use mostly the 45. For they handle curves much better then trying to put a 90 on a curved edge.

If do, I agree that 45 is the mort useful because welding with the bend is easier to planish out than welding a flat to one that has been rolled 90 degrees. That's just asking for the panel to warp out away from the bend.
