Default Jalopy Showdown May

Anyone going to the Jalopy Showdown in York Springs, PA? May 19 ONLY. It's next to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, and only 30 minutes from Carlisle, where the Import and Kit Car show will be happening that weekend.

Bill, There will be some guys banging on sheetmetal at one of the
pavilions in the infield. Stop by and introduce yourself. You
are more than welcome to join in.

The Jalopyshowdown is a great financial help to the Eastern
Museum of Motor Racing ... which has a neat display of some
Hiram Hilegas metalshaping tools. Check it out.

Default Hiram Hilegas

Thanks John. I was at the Allentown auto museum last week and got treated to a sneak peak into the storage area. It turns out they've got all of Hilegas midget car bucks there, and those things are awesome works of metalcraft in themselves. Heavy metal castings done at Bethlehem Steel inlaid with heat-formed angle iron pieces.

This is for everyone going to the showdown.

I guess everyone has heard about the G8 summit this weekend. Well is being held about 25 miles south of the showdown. Security is going to be very tight and route 15 going and coming from frederick and gettysburg is going to be a parking lot. There is going to be a lot of check points through out the area. They are asking people to have proper id during security stops. Not trying to stop you from going to the meet. I would never try to hurt any meet, but sometimes people who dont have any idea what we do or what tools we use can get a lot of attention.

I would bet that the guy running the checkpoint would be hard to belive that the bottle of gas and weird shaped tools are being used for good and not evil. I am with fire / rescue in the area and can assure you that would not be good.

What im tryng to say is be ready for this and maybe find another route to the showdown. This county has never had anything like this in the past and with so many law enforcement from state, county, city, federal, and military there it might get ugly. The old playing in the sand box theme comes to mind.

I post this to try an help all my metal family group so they can have a great time at the meet and not a bad time in jail. There is going to be so much going on that i feel its going to be a jail time till this is over and straighten things out later..

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me at 240-674-2101.

You sure are right Gator, and not only the G-8 at Thurmont; but Gettysburg has a big bluegrass festival (116 west of town), an antique market in the streets on Sat., and the college has graduation. All they see are $ signs.

If coming from the south, I suggest the Westminster, Hanover, Pa rt 94 north route. From the east on Pa 30, turn north on 94 at Cross Keys.
If you're on the pike, it should be okay down rt 15 to York Springs. From
the west I'd take 94 or 74 south out of Carlisle. Don't think rt 30 through
Gettysburg would be a good idea, and a motel room there might be a bit
pricey.

Safe travels to all.

Thanks for the heads up guys. We'll be at a campground on the other side of Gettysburg, heading through town to get to the EMMR. Planning to leave pretty early now.
