Ian and Scott I haven't forgotten that you wanted to see pics of the dies for the Trumpf but I have forgotten to take the pictures. I'll get to it sometime.
I have been busy with the 37. Decided to section it 32mm. Got it back in place today and have tacked it back together. Need to do a lot of planishing to bring the panels up before fully welding it. I should be able to oxy weld by the end of it oldnek.

Well maybe it's a case of if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all??? Replying to my own post.
So I've got the door skins pretty much ready to go. I have made a new one for each side and the one that had the hollow sections has also been fixed up if I require it later. I have dealt with the cowl mismatch on each side. Earlier I replaced the lower cowl patch panel I made with some from direct sheetmetal. I wasn't 100% happy with the one I made for the drivers side so rather than remake it I took the easy route. The replacement panels aren't great, they could certainly use sharper edges. In any event I made a die for the trumpf and made a patch to make a new transition piece. Also scored a pretty cool Mercury dashboard last weekend.

Hey Nigel,
Nice job you are doing on your panels. The car is shaping up nicely.

One by one you are knocking those problems out and getting further ahead.

Below are a few of the dies I have used along the way for the guys that asked about them. I make em out of mild steel as I only need to use them twice each. They are quite crude but have worked to date. These are what I used for the lower 1/4 panel repair sections in the door recess. I did have some problems with the top die which I mentioned in another post. So the 2nd repair panel I used the bottom die 1st then ran the piece through the top die. I would have punched out a new floor like the original on the trailer I am rebuilding if I had a machine like that.

Thanks for showing the Trumph dies, that will save me a lot of R&D.
Keep the pictures coming, I'm loving it.

Nigel, you are moving along quite well. Your gonna be a Pro by the time you have welded the body back together.
Lucky you had plenty of practice at the Meet.. I like your Simple design of tooling for your machine, I wish I had one.

I ain't a pro and I have got the body welded back together with the exception of the tail pan. I am thinking about making a new tail pan rather than welding the existing one back together. I actually can oxy weld and I don't have a fancy torch either. Butt welded the whole 1/4, blew through in a few places where I had tacked it with the tig but otherwise I'm happy with the result. Needs some planishing of the welds and I have 2 x low spots where it sucked in the 1/4's, both in the same place on each side. At least I'm consistent. Sanded this on before taking the pic.

If you have acess to a lathe, the 24mm square can be faced in a 4-jaw chuck, or on a face-plate, Cheers Charlie |
