Default Hello from Georgetown TX

Good morning,
My first eye opening metal shaping experience was when I surprised myself and accidentally hammer formed a compound curve into a skateboard skid plate I made out of aluminum. I attached the flat piece of aluminum to the bottom of the tail of my skateboard with three screws, then when I attempted to form the sides around the curved and radiused edges of the board - It worked! I still remember showing it to my dad when he came home from work that day. I couldn't believe what I had done :-). I was 13 years old then.

Since that bright start I haven't progressed hardly at all :-( . I hammer formed a few shaped parts for a Formula SAE car we built at Oregon State U. in 1995, and I've always been pretty well obsessed with anything with wheels. I have a half built WCM Ultralite S2K, and a 1988 Mercedes 190E with a Ford 5.0L V8 that are both current projects. After I get the few parts needed for each made and get them all done and sold, my next project will be to straighten out a 1959 Autobianchi Bianchina that I bought about 5 years ago. It's very rough and would be considered a parts car by most, so plenty of work to do there. I have a few more projects planned after that, so my metal shaping desires will go on for as long as I do.

I have 5 kids, ages 9, 13, 15, 16, & 18 that keep me pretty busy, so my progress on projects isn't ever too fast.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here. I appreciate being added. Thanks.

Dean
