Default Stolen Metal-shaping equipment

Story on the HAMB: A shop west of Boise Idaho was broken into while the owner was in California and bunch of equipment was stolen.
Ten handheld planishing hammers (CP, Watervliet?,Milwaukee, etc.).
Four shrinker stretchers (floor mounted Erco, Marchant type).
And an Erco flanger.

Default Too close to home....

Only a select few would even know what this equipment is, and how to use it. I personally could not enjoy using that equipment if I knew I had to constantly worry about where it came from.

To have equipment and gear stolen is heartbreaking
They should bring back the penalty, if caught stealing, you get your bloody hands cut off.
I wonder how many would attempt it then.
I hope they catch the bastards.

unfortunately there's way too many selfish people that dont care . For most people it takes many years to collect all the tools they have, its so sad when stuff like this happens the best thing to do is watch ebay ,classifieds etc. maybe the person or people who stole it will be stupid enough to sell it and the 1 good thing is the people in the metal shaping community seem to look out for each other and with all those eyes looking to buy equipment maybe we,ll catch the thief

Trouble is: even if you do see what you think are your tools on ebay, CL etc then what? It's not like he'll sell all of them in one lot so how do you prove it?

The seller/thief is going to deny it, the cops aren't bothered about stolen property. If you go over and confront the "Seller" it could end up nasty.

Unless your tools are clearly marked with your name (which of course, the thief is going to remove) what can you do?

It totally sucks.

It's not THAT hard to print up some little ID stickers and then put them in a little "invisible" corner -

Erco machines, Marchant, Pullmax are all easy this way - up under somewhere Nobody would look - except for a "D check." The handheld planishers - a little more work, perhaps, like pulling off the head and sticking one in the tube end ... hm? Or way down in the tool well?

heck, you could clip off some shim stock, stamp it with your initials, and park that in a gap, slot, or joint someplace. Proof enough when you pull that out.

Default John

I have spent too much time in the sandbox and the results of amputation are worse than just missing a paw. Folks in that part of the world use their left hand for cleaning after toilet and their right for eating and shaking hands with.
Cutting off the right makes you a social outcast. They used to do all the chop-chop work friday at noon and would try to round up westerners to force watching the ugly events. Friday am I disappeared, didn't want any part of it.
