It was then a case of fully welding with a fairly chunky bead leaving plenty of metal to file smooth. For filler wire I cut some thin slivers of the same sheet to ensure no discolouration of the welded zone:

To find the highs and lows I applied some engineering blue and then filed and planished the transition smooth:

Planished and polished the head, then attached it to the body. It's now ready to be given to my in-laws for their Christmas pressent:
