John,
I was thinking of a hinge arrangemantthat goes between the hood mounting points and the OEM hingesetup. Hinged at the rear. Use a bolt or pin to lock the hinge closed for normal opertion. Open hood as normal, but take out the pin/bolt when more access is needed.

Thoughts and concerns I have are the 50 chevy is a tapered hood so positioning of the rods and angles would be a challenge. Also control and weight while trying to open or close it, doesn't seem very stable. I don't want this to be "floppy" during operation. How much reinforcement would I have to add?

I wonder if I should walk away from this conversion?
If you think you might better not... You might better not.

There's projects I pass on simply because I shouldn't do them, not because I cannot. Talk with your client. But trust your instincts. jmho.

Thank you all for your input on this. I will discuss this further with my client and let you all know what happens.
