My remaining question before I go ahead and try aluminum welding is how to clean the flux residue from the inside of a tank. Any one have a suggestion? How do you do the brushing? I have read several aluminum manufacturers books and they all suggest also using some form of acid prior to the use of the brush and warm water. Any thoughts?
You're too kind, Will.

As for your question, I'm assuming you intend to gas weld the tank since you mention the use of flux. Any reason why you don't want TIG weld it?

If you need to acid wash it, AlumiPrep 33 works well. It is available at most aircraft supply places, like Aircraft Spruce. You can also use etching mag wheel cleaner, which is available at most auto parts stores.

Hey, Andy.

I expect that I/we/you will TIG the gas tank because it is .100" thick and will require no metal finishing, but I am actually more interested in the correct type of cleaning process if I decide to try and weld the body panels on the speedster, and have to weld in a place that I cannot get to with a wire brush. The pieces that I made at Kerrys will have to be welded in a manner that will allow grinding off the 'pride' and then metal finishing, including bending and forming.

Come over one day and we can look at the requirements for the side panels.
