Default Dixieland Pictures

I want to first thank Kerry and Caroline Pinkerton for their always generous and first class hospitality. I always have the greates time at their place and the guys that show up for the metal shaping gatherings are equally as friendly and knowledgeable.

Thanks to EVERYONE!

Here are some picture groups that I took, in no particular order. I do not know how to caption them.

Default Thanks and aluminum welding question.

I want to make sure that I thank all the other folks that helped at the meet. Of course, Kerry and Caroline provided the facility, food and atmosphere, and with much help from Kerry, Dan Pate and Steve Hamilton, we all learned another round of shared experiences. The 'light went on' for me in a few new areas this year, and I was able to get a lot of 'pieces' built.

I had requested to only work with pieces of equipment that I had at home, but I got exposed to that 'darn' Eckhold Piccolo, and I am really impressed how fast and smooth it attends to shrinking as well as being used as a die holding tool. I'm 'ruined' now, and when I got home and tried to do some work on the little speedster, I found myself wishing I had a 'green machine' in the corner of my shop. Oh Well!!!!

I will also be taking the time to try and build/add on some form of permanent holder for the rubber tire upper wheel system of wheeling. I used Kerry extensively in forming the corners of the nose section.

I did not get enough work done to get to try any form of aluminum welding, except for Andy (SWT Racing) correcting my gas tank lid that I shortend too much. Andy is an EXCELLANT TIG welder and he did a great job to cover my mistake.

My remaining question before I go ahead and try aluminum welding is how to clean the flux residue from the inside of a tank. Any one have a suggestion? How do you do the brushing? I have read several aluminum manufacturers books and they all suggest also using some form of acid prior to the use of the brush and warm water. Any thoughts?

Once again, thanks to every one that took the time to help me and answer questions.

Will, thanks for the pictures, was great to see you again. Your bucks for your project are a work of art, that is the way to build a buck.
