Australian Members... Gathering???
We've been saying for some time that we had a bunch of members Oz. Today I did a search of all members who have 'Australia' in their location. Since we require that info now I thought it might work.
To my surprise we have 113 members from Australia, 98 of which have been on line at least once in the past 6 months. We also have 4 more who list their location as 'Oz', 2 from Tasmania, and 21 from New Zealand. One of the things we can do in our site software is send an email to members based on search criteria. That is definitely critical mass. I'm pretty sure that the old MetalShapers Association didn't have 100 active members when they held the first FormFest back in 2001. If any of you guys ever want to host a gathering, in addition to the event thread, we can make an email distribution list so everyone who ever joined can be notified of the event.

Hi Kerry. We would need to know how many members, live in each state.
Australia is a very big place, and nearly every body lives, around the coast. I think its about 10 hours to Sydney. 8 hours to Adelaide, and maybe 2 1/2 - 3 days to Queensland. By car. So the meetings would have to be local. Feedback from other members would be good. Cheers Mark |

I don't have any way to know that Mark. I know it's a big country...so is the US but if someone wanted to host a meet, I'd expect folks could travel and some would be willing to travel long distances. I've driven 1000 miles to a meet quite a few times and know quite a few others that have also.
Regional meets are great but you never know who else might want to attend. Unfortunately we don't have a way to print a report on search results. If we did, we could print out what else was in the location. Some folks get more specific than the country...some don't. But if someone wanted to host an event, we could send every member in Australia an email and let them respond with their interest...or not.

Kerry, I think this is a great idea!
If peter is happy to use his place for the meet, I am more than happy to help out, as I am only five minuts from his factory. I will talk to peter and see if we can come up with the plan of attack. How many people are up for it ? |
