Default Turning a curved line

Had to make a panel for a customer that was perfectly flat on the bottom but had a large curved lip on one end. I was just going to use a tipping wheel at first and then round it over but thought I'd try something different. It had to be one piece with no welds.

When Joe Andrews made 6" anvils for me, I had him make several specialty anvils. One of them had the correct profile for the turn so I moved a gokart slick over to Viagra.

I then name a profile gauge of the curve and transferred it to the panel on the back side. First passes were slow and light pressure.

This is the edge view.

As the angle increased the bottom flat part is begins to bend. The solution is to shrink the flange. There are lots of ways to do the shrink but I used NOMAR shrinking dies in the Eckold and went slow so I didn't mark up the panel. No wheel marks or stretching could be on the panel.

After a bit the panel bottom was nice and flat. The angle of the lip was tuned to exactly the correct angle and the shrinking was tweeked a bit and then it was done.

Here you can see the original contour gauge. The marks you see on the lip are just scuff marks from the NOMAR dies. You can't feel them at all.
