Default 88 Gsxr1100 airbox

Just to show none of us were instantly good at any of this.
So over ten years ago I bought a kemppi 250 mastertig cause I wanted to get into all sorts of alloy welding mainly bikes, even though I'm an autobody repairer I'm actually a bike nut, cars are what I make a living from motorcycles are my little passion.
The bike has a 1340 bore kit carillo rods ,tighe cams ,pipemaster exhaust, formula 1 silenser with a 90mm baffle and 38mm flatslides
The carbs ment loss of stock airbox and was using k&n's but needed constant cleaning so decided to build an airbox for it
Here's my first attempt at aluminium welding back then

Now it had to have an unseen top that goes in the tank cavity with the unifilter stack on it, had to be built in two bits to assemble it in there.

Then made a hole in the bottom piece

It still doesn't look bad on the bike even now,yes I still own it

And boy did I learn some stuff ,I'm a little better at it now ,thumbs up if you can guess the bike

I like it and like seeing what happens in the beginning, not just after things look good. Lots of real race bikes have won lots of races with unpretty parts. That makes them real, not just cool.

Beside my chair here in my living room, I keep the first shaped panel I did over 20 years ago. I made a copper bowl without annealing or the smarts to do it. The bottom work stretched thin, then work-hardened and cracked..... It made a good hanging planter (great drainage) for a while, now holds my keys and change & such just fine ever since it helped sell a major public installation. Very cool.

Guess I could weld it up, do a little more work and properly finish it now that I know a little more and have a better shop. No need- It was a good lesson that I still think about all the time.
