Will is giving you excellent advice.

The only thing I would say is that you can stretch the outside to bring the middle down.

You are doing a good job, stay with what Will is explaining.

I took a smaller slice as recommended and added 1/2 inch on the perimeter. I think I can just clean up the edge and add another slice? Thanks for the guidance!

Hi Jeff

Looking good, you might have to stretch that bottom edge a little to stop it from curling under (or is it just the photo?) then once you add your next slice and stick the two together you'll find that the two welded together will have enough strength that you can make any minor adjustments without losing your shape.
Getting there.

Default making progress

Looks like it will be 6 pieces for the body of the tank less the tunnel and end cap. I thought I was buying 14 gage but it's labelled 13 gage? At any rate it mics about 0.080. Bottom halves are 2 pieces each. Starting making the top in 2 pieces as it looked like one would be too thin by the time I got it stretched in the middle, right were the gas filler goes.

Doesn't matter if it's 2 pieces or 20 pieces when you begin because it will be one piece when you're done. Just be sure your welds have good penetration at all times with it being a tank. Smart work! Looking forward to seeing the finished job.

Default one more panel

I think I have the toughest one left but so far so good. Discovered I can beat the edges into position between tacks, even if the edges don't line up so good at the tack.

So far so good. Don't worry too much about the edges not being an exact fit, that will come with practice and you can fudge around it this time. If you put your tacks about an inch apart and tack the whole seam the tacks will not only shrink the gaps closed you'll also be able to adjust the shape with your hammer and dolly before fully welding the seam. Keep the tacks small and grind the tops off them if necessary. Some will crack as you work them but that's not a problem, just put them back.
Once you're happy with the shape weld it in small bites here and there to keep the heat out and minimise distortion. You ought to be able to get inside with a dolly once you've fully welded the upper half to give the shape a good round of finishing before the bottom goes in.
If I had a motorcycle about the place I'd be making me a tank just for fun.

Thanks to all for the support and encouragement.

Making progress. Worked on tunnel today. Got it mostly fitted. Need to weld in filler cap before assembling further.
