Default Jaguar C-Type

Hello,

For months I've buying parts to build a C-type. With all the photo's on the net I could build one close. I want to build a tool room copy, I'm looking for any one that may have drawings.

Thanks so Much and Have the Best Day Ever

Whatever information you get hold of, you will to build a buck/former of some kind.
The most convenient way is to acquire an accurate fibreglass bodyshell to form the skin over.
Next option is to build egg box type buck, lofted off a scale drawing, some experienced men can draw sections by hand, others have them digitized in Cad, then cnc the profiles cut in plywood and connect them together into a 3d structure.
As with all these rare handbuilt cars, no 2 are the same and often not even symmetrical

Totally agree with Martin on the fact that no two C-Types are the same. I've worked on several original C and D types and the mantra with making body panels for them was "if it looks right, it is right." If you took a door from one and tried to fit it to another it would be a country mile out.

Where I used to work (Lynx Engineering, a.k.a. Lynx Cars, Lynx Motors), we had bucks for short and long nose "D's" and C types. The company folded sometime around 2005-6. I wonder what happened to those bucks... Hopefully someone saved them.

Bucks are relatively simple to make, it's the data that's required to build them that is difficult to acquire. Although with CAD these days, you might strike it lucky and find someone with the CAD files to create the necessary stations. It may be fruitful to call a few specialists such as RS Panels to see whether they could help. You never know.

Also, try CKL Developments. The boss, Chris Keith-Lucas, used to be the co-owner of Lynx Engineering and has many contacts in the Jaguar community. He's a wonderful chap, always willing to help. He taught me much in the early days of my career!

Cheers, Matt

Thank You!

What I'm looking for are drawings of frame. As for the body, I started drawing the body lines in autocad to make a buck. I found these measurement from a photo copy of the original coordinance that Jaguar used. I found this in the book
"Jaguar Sports Racing Cars C D Types XKSS Lightweight E- Type Philip Porter"

Thank you all

Hey Joey,

Glad to see you here. Congrats on the podium finish at the Williams Grove National Open.

Joey is being modest in introducing himself as a fabricator. He has built and driven Winged Sprint Cars in the tough Central Pennsylvania area for a long time. His brother Bobby Allen has been on the National World of Outlaws circuit the past two years with two cars running over 80 races a year from Coast-to-Coast !

Things are definitely looking-up for the future of Shark Racing.

As for the C-Type Jag, you can find a real example in the collection of the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia.

Maybe you can sweet-talk them into letting you take measurements (and Patterns ?) off their car.

Good luck to you and the boys from an avid Sprint Car fan.

Hi Joey. A number of local replicas have been built in NZ with I gather a perfect replica chassis and all Jag running gear. One of my metalshaping god buddies has owned one and has worked on several. I just forget the name of the chap who did the frames, but will ask Rob when I next catch up with him and see if there is any info available.

C and D types styling are evident in my E type project as well. Check out 67 E type TA-GT1.

Hi Joey. Spoke with the guy I met with one a couple of months ago. His chassis was done by the late Peter Bruin in NZ, but he thinks he may have some drawings in an electronic format somewhere. The stuff he has on his wall covers off the front and mid section in great detail, but there is not a lot about the rear section - although I recall there is not too much to that anyway. I'll be in touch if he manages to dig something up. He did mention that the dimensions are in some of the good Jaguar books, although this may be more body related - as you are already working with. Gather that one of the aluminium replicas produced in NZ was basically built from one of these books.
