Default AllMetalShaping.com site backups

On behalf of the operations Team, as the resident computer geek, I would like to make an announcement to the members regarding data backups and data integrity.

We have been doing backups on a regular basis. The issue has been figuring out how to verify the integrity of the backups. I am happy to announce that we have successfully restored the backed up database to a test forum and everything is fully functional!

We can now be confident that we not only have backups made, but that they are good and the backup process is understood.

Barring unforeseen disasters that affect Huntsville, Alabama and Rantoul, Illinois simultaneously, we should not experience loss of data that is more than 7 days old.

Just curious Tim;

Is the verification of backups an ongoing thing or is once enough?

It will be ongoing. It takes a bit of time, but I will probably verify at least every other backup.

I read all the comments about MM but didn't reply myself because I was only a member for a short time and didn't contribute.
Here on the other hand I'm involved and enjoy the site and it's members.
I also place a VERY HIGH VALUE on it's content, so Tim thank you for your effort, and thanks to everyone in administration for keeping it all going

(you can delete this part if you want)
just think we got a site where we can talk about whacking on our stumps and beating on our bags and the FBI won't take our computers away

Now let me get this straight. You did a backup BEFORE you tried to move the data??? Dang, what a novel idea. That way you'd be sure nothing got lost if something went wrong!

Sorry...couldn't resist.

Great job Tim! You're worth every cent we pay you! I think I'm going to propose a 200% raise.

Seriously, this is a big deal. Knowing we won't fall into our own 'dark ages' if something bad happens certainly takes a load off my mind.
