The series of Jeep before your donor model has a steering box right at the front of the rail. I suspect the steering shaft would be significantly longer than yours. The coupling to your rack looks similar if not identical to the steering box version. I have a lathe (not a lot of tooling) at my workshop in Bayswater that you're more than welcome to use.
