Steve, the thumbnail dies are bolted to a thin plate that has the square shank welded to it. There is no adjustment left and right on the die holder that Stan supplies. The dies have to be aligned properly to work. All alignment should be done in the lower machine tool holder.

If you are going to shrink steel you will need the steel dies. Stan sells the steel dies also.

I have not tried to shrink copper with the plastic dies but I would think that it would work fine until the copper work hardens and then you would have to anneal it to get additional shinking.
