I wouldn't stress too much about interior rust. Get it running, blast it clean and change the beads. Paint won't last in there anyways. What are you planning for a vacuum system?


Mine is a full cabinet and quite old with unique features that may have been called innovative, but which would be better described not very well thought out....

The biggest problem is bottom cone/collector which is only sloped on three sides (f, l & r) instead of four. This makes for more accessible storage space underneath because the back of the cone in vertical/flat against the wall. But the reduced pitch of the front side traps a lot of beads and greatly inhibits drainage back down to the collector at the bottom. It wont be a quick project to deconstruct it and change the cone configuration, which is why it hasn't happened yet.

Hopefully posting this will be instructive to others thinking about building a cone like this. I wouldn't recommend it.
