That's good. As opposed to sensing I was thinking the flat collector may not be the equal of the conventional merge as far as scavenging but so much also depends upon cam and downstream conditions...

That's how I built mine. Weld one joint at a time, then dress/tune up each successive joint on the belt sander as needed and weld the next....etc.
