That's the best way to get the hang of it practice practice practice. You might also look up aluminum bronze I haven't used it personally but I've heard it works better than silicon bronze.

I've never had a problem with it flowing not melting the base metal. I'm no welder by any means, but joining disimilar metals is generally not a good idea. And by joining I mean melting them...
