By fiber shortening I assume you mean the molecules of the metal being forced into each other which shrinks and thickens the metal. Tuck shrinking,...

As I understand the thumbnail dies raise a tuck then force the tuck sides to "shorten the fibers" by forcing them into the metal. That's how a shrink is made, so yes, the American tooth can do this.
