I was lucky yesterday to get away with as little damage as I did ,
I using a grinder inside the sleeper of a kenworth , I was cutting an aluminium panel out from a storage area under the bunk , we always use silocon spray on the cutting wheel to stop it grabbing on the alloy ( it works extreamly well ) .
Unbeknown to me the can had a microscopic leak, I had it sitting outside the compartment I was grinding in , it had leaked out of the can and drifted down into the compartment , when I started to do the last bit of grinding I touched a bolt head with wheel and kaboooom .
I am extreamly lucky I was wearing a face Shield or my face would have looked the same as my arm .
We still don't know yet if it was the silocon that exploded or the propellant ,
The explosion was large enough to do damage to the sun visors about 9 feet away.

ps... got any pics of your hair-do...? :D j/k

I had a short beard .... Right hand side mostly gone now and there are some very very very short patches on the top of my head, with some nice blistering on my ears

Hello Wayne,

I hope you recover fast and that there no scares are left...
A couple of years ago i was welding with electrodes and had the negative clamp on the bench, next to me (on the bench) was a can with anti-stick to spray on the piece that i was welding....
When i was done with the weld i touched the top of the can with the electrode, luky for me i still had the welding visor down because it was a big flame that came out my hare was burned away....

Regards Wesley

So glad that it was not your face as well!

Bloody Hell Mate, your pretty lucky to come out of that one as well as you did.
That could of been a major accident, just asking was that one of those cheapy brand cans, Ive had a motorguard can split in the cupboard and cover everything with water displacer. The cans are really thin and seams like there glued together.
Cheers to a speedy recovery.

Hi john it was a wurth can of silocon

Oh My God!!!

Wayne hope the recovery goes well and pain subsides, if it was a can of Wurth it could have been the propellant, I have had issues with their product in the cleaner lines they have a parts solvent that is like Brake Kleen what I found was I cleaned a piece of metal as i was full of cutting oil dirt etc and was getting ready to Mig weld it to the matting part the part was dry no signs of any residue when I started the arc from the mig the entire piece of metal exploded into flames, needless to say I was shocked I could not blow out the flame, it went out when I guess the residue was burnt off. being curious as this has never happened before, I started to think if I have ever used this produce on anything else and I found this was the 1st time ever, I experimented to be sure it wasn't my welder so I cut a small piece of metal did the same cleaning procedure waited just like it did before and tired to weld it and poof the same thing happened, I took the cans and disposed of the product I will not use it again. I also had the same results from their Brake Kleen (green can) not the red can
Hoping you get well soon thank God you had your grinding visor on! get well soon Jehammer1952

Hope you make sure you let the Rep know, they may want the batch code, and see if others are faulty. Wurth are pretty good like, the one's on the Sth Coast are anyway.
Hope you will be on the mend for the Christmas Cheer.
All the best Mate.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks for the warning. I don't always look at what is around me when I use a cut off wheel or grind. Thinking I'll pay more attention from now on.

Praying that you heal up well and quickly.
