sunchaser tools

Has anyone seen, used or anything by sunchaser tools. I called about dvds, but he does not sell them anymore. I was wondering how he does his dent repair. I talked to him and got nothing but his life story.

Me too!

I am interested in the Sunchaser 'tools' as well. Have heard about them, but don't know anything about them.

Shrinking discs? Stripping discs?

Does Sun Chaser do metal shaping classes? They're not to far from where I'm at...

All Ken does is a 3 day dent repair class. No metal shaping classes.

Classes

Yes, he has done classes in the past, but I haven't talked to Ken lately. At the larger swap meets, he sells quality body tools and his Sunchaser discs. He does demo's on site, denting and straightening the same fender he's used for years.

When it comes to shrinking discs there are essentailly two choices, the flat discs (some with rolled up edges) and the wavy sunchaser discs. Sunchaser has a sharp edge and I've heard of people cutting themselves.

As for which type works better, you'll need to have others answer that question. I know the flat ones work, and I use one with the rolled up edge. However, I have a friend that wanted a sunchaser, and I found one used at a swap meet for $15 a couple weeks ago. I'm going to give it a try before he gets it (maybe).

He said he does, I think 5 day classes but they are around $5000 to take.

Shrinking Disc

I tried to find the price for Ken's class - I don't think it's anywhere near $5K - but something is wrong with his website. I also know that he has video's available.

John Kelley made a series of Youtube videos on using a shrinking disc and metal working. http://www.youtube.com/user/GullWingInn#g/u I know he also used to sell discs, but heard he had stopped making them.

Discs and video's are available from Wray Schelin of Pro Shaper Tools http://stores.ebay.com/Pro-Shaper-To...id=p4340.l2563 Wray is a highly respected metal shaper, instructor and was involved in getting metal shaping forums started on the web.

Finally, there are threads on the web on how to make your own disc if you search around a little.

There was a thread on the HAMB a while back discussing Sunchaser discs that evolved more in to a discussion about Ken. Sounded like he's jacked up the price on his seminars to weed out the hobbyists and aiming it towards businesses.

If you want to read about the drama, here's the link. The thread is 5+ pages long. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=477984

In regards to the discs, we have both in our hobbyist garage. Have had a wavy Sunchaser disc for a long time, and a smooth one with the rolled edge from Wray since this past winter. I've never liked the wavy disc - scares the crap out of me with that edge spinning about; I much prefer the smooth one.

I also use Wray's discs. They are GREAT! And if you buy the set with the small and large disc it comes with a GREAT video on using a shrinking disc. It REALLY shows how the theory works as well as the proper use of a shrinking disc.

Can't go wrong for $100! Best money I ever spent!

That HAMB thread starts off on the wrong foot & the last page is very revealing. I guess Ken at Sunchaser has some mental health issues?
